Elliott Dream School, Comm Week 2023

Students in Shocker Ad Lab branded and promoted Communication Week 2023 with a Barbie-inspired theme. Everyone concepted. Logan Martin designed the mark.
Madison Murray created the illustration, turning Elliott Hall's red brick to two-tone pink. Then she designed posters for the halls.
Every student who attended Comm Week 2023 received a free T-shirt. For the first time ever, we ran out of shirts. We re-ordered.
David Williams designed this graphic for the video board in Elliott Hall. Just inside the front doors, students couldn't miss the message as they went to classes.
Logan Martin designed the "Outstanding Alumni" graphics as well as all of the "Ones to Watch" graphics. Our keynote speaker and Outstanding Alumni 2023, Kirk Seminoff, editor of the Wichita Business Journal, gave students "10 Keys to Success," in his lunchtime talk.
One to Watch, Lyndsey Cook, is the Senior Marketing and Booking Manager at INTRUST Bank Arena, the second largest indoor arena in Kansas. From Zach Bryan to Monster trucks to All Elite Wrestling, this ESC alumna spends her day cooking up press releases, promotional content for all platforms and booking the arena.
One to Watch Chase Dempsey is a videographer, photographer and the owner of Chase Me If You Can Productions. He lists his hours as, “Open 24 hours.” He’s also the multimedia coordinator at Bethel College. After earning his bachelor’s in communication, and a master’s in advertising and marketing communication from the Elliott School of Communication at Wichita State University, Dempsey has continued to chase his dreams and passions.
One to Watch Julian Liby's day job as “Video Producer” at Yale University is just the trailer. His personal projects are the award winners. "Death, by Koji," Liby’s documentary about his transgender brother and his art, won “Best Documentary Film Editing” at the Mystic Film Festival "Best Local Film" by The Kansas City Underground Film Festival, an “Award of Excellence” from the LGBTQ-Unbordered International Film Festival, and was an award winner at both Doc Sunback Film Festival and the Los Angeles International Film Festival's Indie Short Fest. Liby earned his undergrad degree in communication in 2016 and his master's in 2020.
Introduced by Elliott School faculty and his former Wichita Eagle colleague, Amy DeVault, we honored Kirk Seminoff as the 2023 Elliott School of Communication Outstanding Alumnus. If you count his freelance game coverage for The Wichita Eagle starting when he was 17, and his work at The Sunflower starting in 1984, Kirk has been providing local journalism to the Wichita community for nearly 40 years. Kirk gives of his time freely to mentor students and support student journalists.
Limited edition Yeti cups branded with the Elliott School logo were photographed by Chris Harris. Outstanding Alumni Kirk Seminoff received a Yeti cup as a gift. Five students were also the lucky winners of a cup.
It took a village. Here's the Shocker Ad Lab crew who worked on branding and promoting Comm Week with the theme, "Elliott Dream School" from left: Madeline McCullough faculty creative director, Madison Murray-poster illustration and design, Isabelle Jantz-T-shirt model, David Williams-video board graphics, Chris Harris-photography, Logan Martin-designed the mark and most graphics, Ethan Adams worked on the Elliott Dream School photo frame (that we're standing in), Ivan Ortiz Salinas worked to record and live-stream all presentations during Comm Week '23 and Spencer Harris scheduled and wrote much of the social media posts.
